Yesterday's Footprints
Do not fear my gaze,
As I look upon the winters of your eyes.
I too have felt the sun hide her rays of hope,
And turn her back, as she throws her shadow of despair.
Yet in the darkness, I have walked with you, silent, faithful.
Do you fear my hand, a hand blessed with hopes burning flame?
Touch it – it will not burn.
Look deep – it will not blind.
Dance with it, fold it’s petals around you.
Baptise your spirit in the warmth of new beginnings.
For this is your flame,
Ignited by your essence, fanned by the wings of change,
Lost in a moment of pain, held safe in the bosom of friendship.
Take back hopes flame, let it light the road not taken.
And beware the path already trodden,
For tears wash away yesterday’s foot prints

I wrote this to submit to a publisher. Before you get all excited, it wasn’t a top flight publisher that promised to make me famous, it was more like a print on demand type. Lots of people submitted work and those that made the cut were published in their books. I had two pieces accepted and I bought a couple of books to see my name in print.
Did I get recognition beyond that? Nope.
I guess fame and fortune is a lot harder than that.
